Sri Ram was the king of Ayodhya in the epic Ramayana. He was one of the ten incantations of Vishnu. Diwali is celebrated in lieu of his successful return from Sri Lanka, after defeating Ravana. Sri Ram is widely regarded as a supreme Deity or god. It is used by some Hindus as a dedication to him. In the Varna-Vyavastha (or cast system of India), Vaishyas (businesses man class) and Shudras (care taking class, such as farmers, hoons, kushans or jats etc.) take this surname. In Sanskrit the word ramniya comes from ram, which means 'pleasing' or 'beautiful'.
