The Ramecha surname is associated with the Kuallathackal family, a prominent Christian family based in Kerala, India. The origins of this family can be traced to the Arunmula Parthasarathy temple, an ancient temple in the Pathanamtitta district of Kerala. While the origin of the name is contested, family folklore describes it as an honorary tittle given to the family patriarch, Ramarar Ramecha, who belonged to the Chembakasherri Illam before he was expelled from the family for converting to Christianity. Later the family was closely associated with the building of the Maramon Orthodox church, later became the Maramon Mar Thoma Church.
