'Son of Rainy,' which see. An Aberdeenshire surname. Walter Ranyson, juror on inquest apud Rane, 1413 (REA., I, p. 214). Michael Rani son was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1462, William Raynison in 1467, and Alexander Ranyson in 1483 (NSCM., I, p. 17. 20, 30). William Ranyson was witness in Coliston, Aberdeen, 1462 (REA., I, p. 285), and Thomas Ranysoun is recorded in Bog fochil, 1463 (RAA., II, 148). William Ranisone was master of the Cordonaris Craft in Aberdeen, 1495 (CRA., p. 424), Andrew Ranisone (misprinted in text, Ramsone) was burgess of Aberdeen, 1496 (REA., I, p. 335), and John Ranison witnessed inventory of the estate of Sir John Erskine, younger of Dun, 1513 (SCM, IV, p. 16).
