My husband knew a little of the origin of his surname. The family originated from Lithuania and went to the US via Ellis Island, cira 100 years ago. There are records there and in the Statue of Liberty museum. The name has been shortened. His grandparents worked in the Singer factory in Elizabeth, New Jersey, USA. His dad was a tool maker, and had several siblings. Today (Feb. 2016) I know three other men who share the same surname.
