From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
From Redden in the parish of Sprouston, Roxburghshire, formerly a grange of the Abbey of Kelso. Henry de Reueden witnessed a charter of part of Auchynlec to Waldeus filius Boydoni between 1160 and 1180 (Kelso, 115), and about 1180 Hugh de Reueden witnessed a grant to the Abbey of Kelso by Radulph de Veir (ibid., 215). About the year 1250 there is recorded a confirmation by John, son of Hugh de Reveden, to Galfridus de Eskford (ibid., 508). In 1258 Hugh de Reueden resigned the lands called Floris (now Floors) to the Abbey of Kelso, and a charter of 1285 establishes the descent of Hugh, son and heir of John son of Hugh de Reuedene (ibid., 215,218). Frudrick Reddein, baxter burgess of Linlithgow, 1689 (RPC., 3. ser. XIV, p. 622). The wife of Andrew Redden died in Swinton June 1942.
