Of local origin. There are places named Redford in Angus, in the parish of Dysart, Fife, and in the parish of Colinton, Midlothian. Andro Reidfurde, reidare at Pettruthny, 1574 (RMR.). Alexander Reidfurd was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1611 (NSCM., I, p. 108), and Andro Reidfurd in Harthoip witnessed a notarial instrument at Raecleuche, 1612 (Annandale, I, p. 81). John Reidford was appointed minister at Aberchetdour, 1647 (Strathbogie, p. 81), Thomas Reidfurde in Melrose, 1662 (RRM., II, p. 21), and William Reidfoord, tenant in Hassendeanbank, 1688 (Peebles CR.). Margaret Reidsfoord appears in Langlee, parish of Crawfordjohn, 1675, and Thomas Ridfoord in Crawford, 1728 (Lanark CR.). James Rudford was a member of Drumblade Company of Volunteers, 1804 (Will).
