A person of this name in a letter to the "Weekly Scotsman" of Edinburgh some years ago said that in his family Rible under 1731 this name is spelled Rikie; and he adds that he had access to records as far back as 1460 in which the name is spelled Riki and Rikie. James Reky in Dundee was charged with aiding the English, 1552 (Beats, p. 327), and John Rekie appears in Leith, 1567 (RPC., I, p. 563). It may be a diminutive of Rickart, which see, a variant of Richard, and it may also be noted that there is a place named Reikie in the parish of Alford, Aberdeenshire.
