This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Reskymer.' Seemingly an old Cornish font-name. The instances are before the period when surnames were (saving in exceptional cases) turned into Christian names. Nevertheless Lower, quoting Gilbert's History of Cornwall, says, 'The family (Reskymer) became extinct in the 17th century. They had resided for fourteen generations on their estate of Reskymer, in the parish of St. Mawgan, near Helston.' Doubtless therefore the name is local. The surname still exists in the form of Reskimer, as I have personally met with a gentleman of that name.
