From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

An Englishing of Mac Ruairdh which see. Morgownde Ruryson or Roryson took part in the battle of Gasklune in 1391 and in the following year was outlawed as part guilty of the slaughter of Walter de Ogilvy, sheriff of Angus (APS., I, p. 579). Sir Dougall Ruresoun or Rorieson appears as vicar of Logy and Urquhard and prior of Beauly in 1498 (RSS., I, 273; Beauly, p. 329).

Thomas Roriesoun or Roreson was retoured heir of Andrew Roriesoun of Bardannoch in lands in the barony of Glencaim, Dumfriesshire in 1563 (Retours, Dumfries, 6; ER., XIX p. 530). Mention is made in Moysie's Memoirs of Thomas Rorestoun, forfeited for coining, 1581, and in the edition of 1755 he is mentioned as "Thomas Roresone of Bardamno." Henry Roresoun appears in Newhouse, Orkney, 1610 (OSR., I, p. 239), and John Roriesone in Holm of Rorland in 1675 (Kirkcudbright). Roresoun 1619.
