From Roslin or Rosslyn in the parish of Lasswade, Midlothian, the old name of which was Rosclyn. Roger de Rosclyn witnessed a Peeblesshire charter of 1214—49 (REG., p. 128). Henry de Roskelyn witnessed inspeximus of a charter by Alexander III in 1261 (Bain, I, 2276), and in 1279 resigned the lands of Roskelyn and Cattekon into the king's hands (Neubotle, p. 290). Sir Thomas of Roslyne, a knight in the service of Edward I, is the first recorded as buried in the churchyard of Dunnottar Castle, 1336 (SHR., II, p. 404; ER., I, p. cxlvii).
