Roswarne Surname Meaning
From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Roswarne,' an estate in the parish of Camborne, Cornwall (Lower's Patronymica Britannica).
An estate in Camborne, co. Cornwall, formerly the residence of the family.
An estate in the parish of Camborne, co. Cornwall, which had anciently owners of the same name, who continued in possession till the reign of James I., when the De Roswarne of that day sold it to Ezekiel Grosse, gent., attorney-at-law. Concerning this lawyer, Mr. Hals tells a queer story, to the effect that a ghost pointed out to him a great treasure in the mansion (hidden there doubtless by one of the Roswarnes) which he appropriated; but the "phantasm or spectrum" so haunted him, that he was obliged to quit the place, which he sold to his clerk, John Call-probably an ancestor of the baronet of that name and county. See Davies Gilbert's Cornwall, i. 162.
From Rosewarne in the parish of Camborne; from rose-warne, the valley of alders. Hence, no doubt, the U. S. name Rosewharm.
