RUCHLAW: Probably from the lands of Ruchlaw in the parish of Stenton, East Lothian. Berthin de Ruchelau witnessed the gift by Philip de Pethcox of meadowland in Pitcox to the Abbey of Melrose in the reign of Alexander II (Melros, p. 221-222). Timothee Rouchlaw or Ruchlaw was notary in Chimside in 1607-18 (Craw, Chirnside Common, p. 14). and Thomas Rouchlaw, notary in St. Andrews diocese, 1622 (Laing, 1906).
