A surname recorded in Dumfriesshire. John Ruddack, schoolmaster at Hoddam, died in 1744. Perhaps from Old English personal name Rudd + diminutive -ock. Hew Roddick, miller, 1688, and five more of the name in the neighborhood (Dumfries). Appears in Annan in 1801 as Rodic.

RUDDACH: Alexander Ruddach, burgess of Aberdeen, 1591 (SCM., III, p. 155), and William Ruddocht was admitted burgess there in 1621 (NSCM., I, p. 127). Jonet Ruddauch was retoured heir of James Ruddauch, portioner in Millegin, in the lands of Millegin, etc., 1628 (Retours, Banff, 55). Adam and David Ruddah are recorded in 1650 (Strathblane, p. 122), Adam Rudoch at Mill of Innes, 1689 (Moray), and William Ruddoch in ffortrie, 1690 (Banff Rec., p. 92). George Ruddach in Portsoy, 1742 (Aberdeen CR.), and a later George Ruddaich in Portsoy died in 1787 (Fordyce, p. 105). compare Reddoch and Riddoch.
