Sapulette is composed of two words from the native Central Maluku language (Tana), which are sapu and lette. Sapu means 'flower', lette means 'kingdom', so Sapulette means 'flower of the Kingdom'.
This meaning refers to the role of Sapulette clan in the Ullath A.K.A. Beilohy Amalatu (tana) kingdom (now known as Ullath Vilage; located in Saparua island) which is the homeland for the Sapulettes. Sapulette clan's role in the kingdom is to maintain the physical and spiritual cleanliness of the kingdom. The elders of Sapulette clan clean and "bless" the Parigi Negri (the kingdom main water source) every full moon and give blessings and guidences to the King and his family. Perhaps, before Christianity was accepted as the religion of the kingdom, Sapulette clan was the only priest/spiritual guru of the kingdom.
The name of the Sapulette clan ancestor is Kapitan Ama Uru Kumbang (Captain, Father Uru Kumbang)*.
Now days, Sapulette clan live predominantly in Ullath village, but there are many members of the clan that live in neighboring islands, especially Ambon island. There are also many clan members that live in Netherland. These pople are descendants of the Sapulettes that migrated there in 1950 (along with many other moluccans) due to political and security reasons.
This writing is mainly based on my observations and oral testimonies from Sapulette elders.
I know this from a footnote in my late grandpa's journal which I read when I was 8 or 9 (I don't remember exactly), hence makes this data has a great chance of being a false data.
