Small and secluded as is the spot, it has originated a surname that has spread far and wide. It seems to have reached London about the 16th century. But it is still familiar in the immediate district, as I can testify.

Although the name is from the north of England, most Setterfields live in the English county Kent, which is located in the south of England. Mostly around the area of Canterbury. There are even two Setterfields on a war memorial in Canterbury, near its cathedral.
