R. S., who flourished at the end of the 17th century, was the inventor of the first working steam - engine; the Devonshire Saverys are said to have come from Normandy (Cotton's "Totnes"). Savary was also the name of a Huguenot family established at Greenwich at the end of the 17th century, hailing originally from Perigord, in the south of France, and still represented by the Tauzia Savarys (Smiles' "Huguenots").
