SEGGAT: Of local origin from the Vicus Maris "qui vocatur Segait" (= Seagait or Seagate) in the burgh of Abberbroth (Arnbroath). Patrick tie Seygat was one of the jurors on an inquisition made at Arnbroath in 1452 (RAA., II, 93). He is also mentioned in the same document without the "de." in 1483 and again in 1505 we have mention of the land of Laurence Segait or Seygait in Arnbroath (ibid., II, 223,448). David Seget was bailie of Brechin in 1585 (REB., II, 220). Thomas Seggat (Latinized Seghetus) was author of a Latin poem in the Delitiae Poetarum Scotorum, Arnsterdam, 1637, II, p. 490—504.
