The first state school in the city of Najaf was opened by the Shamsa household. The mayor of Najaf was of the Shamsa family and was kept on by the Ottoman empire and the British forces circa 1915. Also In one of the entrances of the shrine a window with pictures of all the deceased members of the Shamsa family is there which signifies the respect and love people have for them. However the Shamsa family can be traced back to Lebanon.
