This surname Shevchuk spread quite widely in the west of Ukraine and the regions bordering on it. The surname Shevchuk is not very rare in the regions of Russia and neighboring countries. In noteworthy very old papers, people with this surname were very important persons from the Russian Kiev boyars in the 17-18 centuries, who had respectable power and honor. The first mention of the surname can be found in the list of the census of Ancient Rus during the reign of Ivan the Terrible. The tsar kept a special register of noble and pleasant-sounding surnames, which were given to those close to him only in case of special merit or encouragement. Therefore, this surname has retained its individual origin and is unique.
