SHORESWOOD: John of Shoriswode was juror on an inquest held at Berwick-on-Tweed in 1370 (Bain, IV, 175). George de Schoriswode who was rector of Cultir in 1450 (LSC., 121) and a frequent witness in the king's writs, later became bishop of Brechin and chancellor of the kingdom (REB., pref. p. xi). His name appears frequently in record as Schoreswode and Schoriswode, and in the Memorie of the Somervilles his name is spelled Chorsewood. Dominus Johannes Schorisvode was a witness in Aberdeen in 1498 (REA., I, p. 344). James Schoriswood was a notary in Glasgow in 1525 (REG., 496), Gilbert Schorswod, mariner, was admitted burgess of Dundee in 1585, as also. was John Schorswod or Schirriswod in 1592 (Wedd., p. 80, 93). Robert Schorswood was retoured heir in lands in Baitscheill in the lordship of Home in 1635 (Retours, Berwick, 213). The name also appears in Stirling in 1717 as Shereswood, and Thomas Shoarswood was taylor burges in Edinburgh, 1734 (Guildry, p. 149). Schoirswood 1635, Schoriswodd 1449, Schorswood 1635.
