Archibald Sibbet, witness in Kirkwall, 1545, appears in following year as Arche Sypbet (REO., p. 233,338), and Alexander Sibbot was procurator in St. Andrews, 1547 (Rollok, 28). John Sibbett was delaited for the slaughter of Archibald Ballingall in 1560 (Trials, I, p. 425). Patrick Sibbat served on an inquest in the Canongate, Edinburgh, in 1561 (MCM., II, p. 97). Sentence of forfeiture was passed against William Sibbat of that Ilk in 1571 (Diur. Occ., p. 244), and Gilbert Sibbet was admitted burgess of Aberdeen in 1575 (NSCM., I, p. 72). Isobell Sibbitt is recorded in Stand the lane in 1672 (Lauder). The surname appears frequently in the parish register of Dunfermline between 1561-1700.
