The steps of the evolution of this name in Arran "are traceable from the Kilmorie session records, where we have the Gaelic forms M'Inurignach (1702), M'Nargenach and M'Nargid (1719) for 'Mac-an-Airgid' 'son of the Silver'; and the English form in Silver' (1718) later on a tombstone and record 'Siller' and so passing to Sillars.
