Simbeck Surname Meaning

User-submitted Reference

The Simbeck surname stems from a place named Simbach. Simbeck is a dialectal form of saying 'one from Simbach', which is still used in Bavaria today. Bavaria is also the most prevalent geographical area with the most incidence of the surname today. There are at least two known places called Simbach. One being a rather idyllic town Bavarian town on the Southern boarder with Austria and another rather small village in North Eastern Bavaria close to Berching and not far from Regensburg in Bavaria's Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz) region. Simbach itself can be traced back meaning 'brook' or 'small river', where you can screen something, e.g. using the water movement to clean or sift e.g. wheat etc. For this reason the surname Simbeck also appears as Sinnepach or similar in documents before the 1600s before the dialectal change.
