The Sinfronio surname derives from the Ancient Greek sumphérō (συμφέρω), meaning 'to bring together', 'to gather', 'to collect', which in turn is composed of two elements: sún (σῠ́ν) (beside, with, allied, together) plus phérō (φέρω) phérein (φέρειν) (to bring, bear, carry). In turn the surname means 'he who accompanies companion', 'he who is suiting', 'he who is useful'. Saint Symphorosa is venerated as a Christian saint. According to tradition, she was martyred with her seven sons at Tibur (Tivoli) towards the end of the reign of Emperor Hadrian (117–138). The feast day is traditionally celebrated on July 2 and July 18.
