An Orcadian surname of local origin from the lands of Skea in Deerness. Magnus Sea was witness to the sale of a toft in Kirkwall in 1480, Bernard of Ska purchased a two mark land in Deldaill within Deirnes in 1505, Sir James Seay was chaplain in Orkney, 1523 (OSR., I, p. 104), John Skay in Deirnes was member of an assize in Tankirnes in 1559, and Madie Skae of Tankimess is recorded in a deed dated 1597 (REO., p. 111,203, 323,331).
