There are places of this name in the shires of Ayr, Dumfries, and Stirling. As most of the names noted are connected with the West Coast the name may have been derived from Skeoch, near Mauchline, Ayrshire. John Skeoch was chaplain in Kilbirny in 1507, Andrew Skeoch, presbyter in Glasgow, 1522, appears in 1528 as Skeothe (a misreading of t for c). Sir John Skewych or Skeocht was procurator in Glasgow in 1553, and Elizabetht Skewcht is recorded in Glasgow in the same year (Protocols, I). William Skeoch took the Test in Paisley, 1686 (RPC., 3. ser. XI, p. 496).
