SLAINS: From the parish of Slains in Aberdeenshire. William de Slanes, knight, witnessed a charter by Matthew Kyninmond, bishop of Aberdeen, c. 1180 (REA., I, p. 12). Willelmus de Slanys witnessed a charter by William Cumyn, earl of Buchan, of the church of Buthelny to the Abbey of Aberbrothoc in 1221 (RAA., I, p. 93). Nicol de Slanes in the county of Arne rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 202), and Robert of Slains was member of an inquest held at Artrowquhi in 1436 (CAB., p. 394).
