All recorded in Aberdeenshire. Robert Sleller (perhaps an error for Slesser), burgess of Aberdeen, 1487 (CRA., p. 44). In 1696 several Slessors were recorded in the parish of Peterhead. Mary Slessor (1848—1915) of Dundee was a famous missionary in Old Calabar. James Slessor of Fyvie served in the first Great War (Turriff). Sleastek, a Braemar surname in the seventeenth century, is perhaps a variant. The name may be of Dutch origin.
