This surname is derived from a geographical locality. (1) 'of Kneesall,' a parish in the the Diocese of Lincoln; (2) 'of Knettishall,' a parish in the the Diocese of Norwich. There was evidently a difficulty in pronouncing the last local term. It would readily corrupt. It is quite possible that the Lincolnshire surname Snushall is a corruption of (1); compare Sturges for Thurgis, and v. Spurdance.
