Snitch is likely a corruption of another surname, but there is no evidence I am aware of that suggests a link. It is possible that a the leading 'S' was corrupted from another letter. There are several possibilities in the area: Hitch, Fitch and Ritch. Endings in -itch can be a corruption of -ridge, -batch, -wich etc. The most obvious possibility is S[a]n[w]itch, from Sandwich in Kent.
