William Snype, witness in Linlithgow, 1534 (Johnsoun) may be William Snype who witnessed a precept by Hugh, earl of Eglintoun in 1541 (Hunter, p. 19). John Snype had a lease of the customs of Glasgow Bridge, 1575 (Council Records, I, p. 37), and Adam Snype was admitted burgess of Glastow as a burgess heir in 1578 (Burgesses). Phillan Snype was cooper and citizen of Glasgow, 1588, and another Phillane Snype, cooper, probably his son, was burgess there, 1657 Protocols, X; Inquis., 4235). Andrew Snype was admitted burgess of the same city in 1610 (Burgesses) and Mr. Andrew Snype was librarian of the College of Glasgow in 1642 (RUG., III, p. 573). Agnes Snype was married in Edinburgh, 1638 (Edinb. Marr.), and James Snype was officer at Kilmalcome Church, 1700 (Laing, 2986). Perhaps local from Snipe in Northumberland.
