The first person to take this surname was a distinguished figure of Don Egas Gomes de Souza, owner of the land in passing the river Sousa, located in the Minho region in Portugal.
The Souza name is quite common in Brazil and Portugal as family name. In Brazil, we arrived during the early years of Portuguese colonization in the country. Incidentally, Egas Gomes de Souza is considered cousin of Thomas de Souza, the first governor-general of Brazil.
