Surnames of the United Kingdom (1912) by Henry Harrison

Spackman is another ancient Wilts name. There was a John Spagman in Westbury in the reign of Richard II. (H.); and Aubrey mentions a William Spackman of Bushton in the reign of Charles II. Thomas Spackman, a Marlborough burgess in the time of Queen Anne, was a member of the town council in 1714 - 1715 (W.); in 1785 there was a Thomas Spackman buried at Cliff Pipard (A.). This is evidently a very old English name, since we find the name of Spakeman in Kent in the reign of Edward I. (H. R.).
