SPOTT: From the lands of Spott, near Dunbar, Hast Lothian. Eliz de Spot of the county of Edinburgh and Huwe, son of Moyses de Spot of the county of Berwick, rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 201,213). Adam Spot granted a charter of land in the tenement of Blantrodoks (Ballintrodo, now Arniston), c. 1300-20 (Hay, p. 6). Adam of Spot, bailie of Edinburgh in 1386 (ER., III, p. 139), is recorded again in 1404 (Egidii, p. 41), and Jamys Spott of Scotland petitioned for a safe conduct into England in 1396 (Bain, IV, 476), and Walter de Spott was burgess of Edinburgh in 1411 (Egidii, p. 44). Ninian Spot witnessed a chartei of a tenement in Musselburgh in 1437 (Soltre, p. 53), appears as presbyter and prebendar of Menmuir in 1454 (Southesk p. 720), and canon of Dunkeld and comptroller and in parliament in 1458 (Stodart, II, p. 375).
