Thom Squier witnessed a grant of the lands of Drumkerauch in 1260 (RPSA., p. 347), and Johan le Squier of Whyhope of Edinburghshire rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 201). Thomas Skayre, juror on inquisition at Perth, 1305 (Bain, II, p. 450), William Squier witnessed the homage of Duncan, earl of Fife to the abbot of Dunfermline in 1316, and in the same year appears as burgess of Dunfermline (RD., p. 235,236). Michael Squier was witness in a dispute between James de Dundas and the abbot of Dunfermline, 1342 (ibid., p. 262), and William dictus Squyer was witness to a Perth charter of 1375 (Milne, p. 36). John Squyer or Skuyer was one of the masons who contracted in 1387 for the building of five chapels on the south side of St. Giles's parish church, Edinburgh (CDE., p. 14; Nisbet, Plates). Thomas Squiar appears in Aberdeen, 1408 (CWA., p. 315), Gilcrist Sqwier had a safe conduct to enter England in 1424 (Bain, IV, 963), William Skyar (Sqwyare, or Square) who gifted "vnum antiphonarium" to the church of Aberdeen died in 1439 (REA., II, p. 135,204, 218), and John Squyer, chaplain in Dundee, is in record, 1452 (REB., I, 53). Thomas Squeyar in Inverness was fined in 1606 "for the vrangus trubling of Murdo Poilson," and "drawing of the said Murdois bluid with his steked naiff on his wisag and face" (Rec. Inv., II, p, 34), and Alexander Square was nominated to pass upon an inquest in Inverness, 1686 (ibid., II, p. 342). Thomas Skair is recorded in Balna-moon, 1689 (RPC., 3. ser. XIV p. 709), and Alexander Skair of Burnside, parish of Menmuir, d. 1751. John James Squiies from Maroch was killed in the first Great War (Turriff). Squear 1613, Skuyer and Sqwyer 1387, Squir 1644, Squyar 1630, Squyre 1628, Sqwyar c. 1500.
