From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

Territorial, from the lands of Strachan (pron. Strawn) in Kincardineshire. Waldeuus de Stratheihan with consent of Ranulfus, his son and heir, granted the lands of Blarkerocch to the church of St. Andrew, c. 1200 (RPSA., p. 276-277). Ranulph de Stratheuchin witnessed a charter granted by Thomas de Lundin between 1203-14 (RAA., I, 65). Waldeuus de Strahechen witnessed an undated (but c. 1220) charter of Dunfermline (RD., 202). Ranulph de Straueyhin and Michael de Strathekan were in 1268 appointed attorneys by Alexander, earl of Buchan, to receive the purparty of himself and his wife (Bain, I, 2509, 2513). John de Strathechyn de Beeth Waldef, son and heir of late Ranulph de Strathechyn, resigned his lands of Beth Waldef to the abbot and convent of Dunfermline in 1278 (RD., 86). Thomas de Strathechyn who served on an inquest in 1333 (REA., I, p. 54) may be Thomas de Strathawyn who had a lease from the Abbey of Abirbrothoc of lands in the Mearns, 1342, and Thomas de Stradeqwhyn designed "dominus de Knokkis in le Mernys," 1351 (RAA., II, p. 16, 25). Henry de Strathekyn had a charter in 1346, and in 1361 Alexander de Strathechyne had a grant of the lands of Skryne in the barony of Panmure (Panmure, II, p. 166,174). Abraham Stratheykyn is recorded in Aberdeen, 1408 (CWA., p. 314), Geffray Sterthaughyn had a safe conduct to travel in England, 1424, and John of Straachyn and Alexander (without 'of') the same, 1431 (Bain, IV, 963, 1051). William Stradachin became burgess of Aberdeen, 1463, and Donald de Strachauchin in 1465 (NSCM., I, p. 18, 19). James Straithauchin claimed the benefice of Culter, 1489 (OPS., I, p. 175), Sir John Stradachyn, a cleric, was witness in Aberdeen in same year (REA., II, p. 303), and David Straughin was procurator of the Scottish "Nation" in the University of Orleans, 1512 (SHSM., II. p 97).
