From the old stewartry of Strathearn in Perthshire. "Several persons, male and female, are called de Stratherne, who may have been sons and daughters of the earls, but probably many others were styled de Stratherne merely because they came from the district" (Inchaffray, p. lxxii). Maucolum de Stratherne and Robert de Stratherne rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 200), and Patrick of Strathern was witness to a resignation of lands in the barony of Drumelzier in 1331 (I Jay, p, 9). Walter Stradher or Stratherne was familiar to the earl of Murref, 1390 (Bain, IV, 412), Thom of Strathern or Strethern was tenant in Chapeltoun of Kethyk, 1474 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 188,196). An assignation of the lands of Tulibaglis by Thomas Strathern, heir of umquhile Richart Strathern, is recorded in 1462 (SCM., V, p. 285), and Mungo Stratherne was a witness in Linlithgow in 1538 (Johnsoun).
