Strawson Surname Meaning
From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
(regarding which evidence is lacking) may be a corrupt form of Strongson, q.v. (Hardly for ‘Strauss’s Son’).
. The Rev. S. C. Wood, Rector of Stroxton, Lincs, informs me that that place is referred to in 1612 as “Stroxton alias Strawson,” that in an Institution to Benefice a.d. 1558 the parish is called both Stroxton and Strawston, and that a ‘Thomas de Stroweston’ occurs in 1366. This, then, is evidently the Stroðistún of an nth-cent. agreement (forew(e)ard) printed in ‘Dipl. Angl.’, p. 595 [the pers. name Stroð is apparently from Old English strúdan, pp. stroden, to pillage]
From the German, Strauss; a personal name.
