STUPERT: An Ayrshire surname. Robert Stawpart who held part of the lands of Owyr Possil, 1513 (Rental), appears in 1522 as Robert Stalpart, tenant in Nether Possill (ibid.). One of this name gave name to Stawpartislandis (1504) or Stalparlandis (1510) (RMS., II, 2817, 3484). Andrew Stouphart was box-master of Trinity Hospital, Leith, 1759 (Laing, 3208), and John Stupart appears in Grange, parish of Logie, 1794 (Logie, I, p. 196).
