From Swanston near Colinton, Midlothian. Duncan de Swaynystoun and Mariota, his wife, made grants of portions of their lands of Swaynystoun to the Hospital of Soltre, c. 1221—38 (Soltre, p. 23, 24, 26). Jennet Suanstone was a tenant under the Abbey of Kelso in Bowdene in 1567 (Kelso, p. 519), John Suanstoune in Bouden, 1641 (RRM., I, p. 86), and Bessie Swenstoune is recorded in Crealling in 1684 (Peebles CR.). Swanstone 1699.
