Richard Sweet, another martyr of the Monmouth rebellion of 1685, was executed at Minehead (W\). Swete was the name of an ancient gentle family of Trayne, Modbury (Devon), from the 16th to the 18th century (Polwhele's "Devonshire"). In the 16th and 17th centuries there was an Exeter family of Sweet, members of which frequently served as mayors and bailiffs of the city (Izacke's "Exeter").
