Sá Surname Meaning

User-submitted Reference

This family are descendants of Sephardic Jews who fled the Holy Land, settled in Toledo, Spain and later emigrated to Portugal. In fact, the Sa family is a direct descendant of one of the tribes of Israel. Namely, the one to whom Joseph of Egypt belonged, and whose great patriarch and original figure, Ben-Saa. He was one of the last to carry the golden bull, dormant by the Israelites before Moses forbade him by the words of God in his Commandments. Hence the coat of arms contains a black bull with golden tears. After they stopped worshiping these idols, the tribe that gave rise to the surname Sa, was in charge of protecting and transporting the ark of the covenant. So it was considered as one of the great families of Israel. That is why the coat of arms again urges Israel with the checkered, silver (white) and blue, the colors of the Israeli flag.
