TABURNER: A player on the tabor, from ME. taburner. In Middle English vocabularies to berner is glossed "timpanista, timpanizator." 1467, "giffin to the tawbronar that playit to the king" (ALHT., I, p. 322). Andrew Taberner was one of the jurors on an inquisition in Edinburgh, 1428 (RAA., II, 61), and a later Andrew Tabowrnar witnessed an instrument of sasine of the lands and castle of Temptalloune in 1475 (Douglas, III, p. 106).
