The Gaelic-Irish form of Tannian used in the Annals of Loch Cé is Ó Tanaidhen: in 1406 Diarmuid O'Tannion was one of three-prominent Connachtmen who assassinated the king of the day. There are some families of the name in Co. Galway today, the name being little known outside Connacht.
