Of local origin from the village of Tarves in Buchan, Aberdeenshire. Thomas Tarwas, abbot of Paisley, died in 1459 (RMP, pref, p. vi). Thomas Tarvass was admitted burgess of Aberdeen in 1502-and Alexander Tarvass in 1504 (NSCM., I, p. 41). Symsoun Terwes was accused of assault in the same burgh in 1544 (CRA, p. 212).
