In 1415 Tawis Michison appears as a charter witness (Scon, p. 205), and Taus ffrasser of Littlegarth is mentioned in 1632 (IDR, p. 25). William Taus (here a surname), tailor in Dunkeld, died in 1667. John Taws in Ordie, 1733 (Aberdeen CR.). The surname Taise, found in Mar in the seventeenth century, is probably another form of the name. See Mactavish.
