The Terpenka surname comes from a linage of Romanians (from Serbia) residing in the autonomous province of Vojvodina in the northernmost part of Serbia. This surname first shows up in municipal documents dating back to the early 18th century. What's more is that there's a region in Russia's Yaroslavl Oblast (Central Federal District) also called Terpenka, despite there being no direct ancestral ties to it. What's believed is that ancestors settled in Russia as a result of Yaroslavl Oblast being known as a trade hotspot in the 16th century and many in Ottoman ruled regions were starting migrate north. By the early 17th century, this region was heavily under attack hinting to the fact that they probably started coming back down South and eventually ended up in Vojvodina. In 1991 certain descendants immigrated to Ontario, Canada to escape the tensions within Yugoslavia preceding the civil war.
