This name appears in the New Testament, belonging to a companion of St. Paul, who became Bishop of Crete and today is revered as St. Titus. It was also the prelude of three Roman emperors of the Flávios dynasty in the first century and is the name by which the second of them is known in history. Shakespeare also used for his main character in his tragedy "Titus Andronicus", but as a given name, was used only after the Protestant Reformation.
