There are families of the name in Sweden, descended from William Thorburn of Leith, who in 1823 migrated to that country. Grant Thorburn (1773—1863), merchant and publicist, New York, was born in Dalkeith. His great-grandson, S, Grant Thorburn, was mayor of Clifton, New Jersey, 1927.
