A rare surname in Scotland, derived from 'The Threipland,' a vale in the parish of Kilbucho, Peeblesshire. Robert de Threpeland of the county of Peebles rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 207). Marr.), and John Thrippland is recorded in Spittell, 1708 (Minutes, p. 37). The Thrieplands of Fingask were a family distinguished by a passionate loyalty to the Stewarts in exile. About the beginning of the nineteenth century the laird of Fingask died without direct heir and the family possessions passed to a kinsman, Scott-Kerr, who assumed the name of the old Perthshire family.
